5 Chilling Easter Eggs in Games That Will Give You the Creeps

May 13, 2025 / by Louigi Balao / 3 mins read

Video games contain messages or experiences from the developers and certain gems from other places. Some may stand out and be fun to find, but some are just plain disturbing and eerily creepy. These unsettling homages can leave players feeling uncomfortable, which is why we are diving into five Easter eggs that gave out the chills.

The Witch - Payday 2

Robbing banks, hacking security systems, and asking the crowd to keep their heads down is a dangerous game. Still, honestly, the last thing you would expect in that type of game—especially Payday—is a supernatural appearance. Enter the creepy Witch from good ol’ Left 4 Dead. Players may hear a haunting wail on certain Halloween-themed heists before encountering her. It’s not just a visual cameo—the eerie atmosphere, her sudden lunges, and that infamous scream will be present in your encounter—quite cool if you ask me since I love the L4D series.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Cabbage Seller

Okay, this isn’t creepy or scary, but instead fun. It is the moment you sit up and point at the screen type of thing because that was the case for me. In Baldur’s Gate 3, players can come across a cabbage merchant with an uncanny line famous to The Last Airbender. Players who have watched the show will immediately catch on when he says, “My cabbages!”

While this is more humorous, it’s a bizarrely placed reference that feels almost out of place in the game’s epic fantasy setting, making it feel weirdly jarring.

UFO Sighting - Grand Theft Auto V

The Grand Theft Auto series is known for its strange Easter eggs, but GTA V takes the cake with its UFO sightings. Under certain weather conditions, players can spot a hovering, semi-transparent UFO above Mount Chiliad. The sighting itself leaves players with more questions than answers, which is honestly on brand for Rockstar Games, so good on them.

The Creepy Mannequins - Call of Duty: Black Ops III

From YouTube/Deity Recordings

In Call of Duty: Black Ops III, an unsettling Easter egg occurs on the “Nuketown” map. If you shoot off the heads of every mannequin in the level within two minutes, they turn into aggressive, zombie-like enemies. These lifeless figures suddenly move towards you when you’re not looking, which is reminiscent of the “Weeping Angels” from Doctor Who. Cool, huh?

Now, how will you enjoy these Easter eggs in your own home? You need a monitor to keep up and provide the entertainment you deserve.
