Downloadable content, or DLC, serves as an extension of what players love about their favorite games. DLC can introduce new challenges and storylines and sometimes even enhance the overall experience. Interestingly, there are instances where DLC has reached a level of quality that rivals the original game, leading to debates about which is actually better. What do you think? Let's discuss some titles that have had a similar impact.
Editorial Note: This article functions as a thought starter, encouraging readers to reflect on the mentioned titles. Please note that this is an opinion piece based on personal experience.
Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
From Steam Official Website
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an incredible game, but some conversations naturally lead to its DLC, “Blood and Wine,” which is set in the vibrant, picturesque, and almost fairytale-like land of Toussaint. This expansion provides players with a striking contrast to the war-torn regions of the main game.
CD PROJEKT RED truly outdid itself by not only adding new quests but also delivering a completely new experience filled with its own stories, monsters, and lovable characters—Sylvia Anna, for example! The DLC features a rich narrative and arguably a more engaging storyline that enhances the overall plot, especially in how it brings Geralt's story to a close. I won’t spoil anything, but if you ever have the chance to play it, you’ll understand what I mean. Overall, it’s a fantastic game!
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
From Steam Official Website
Here comes another CD PROJEKT RED title. Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the most anticipated launches in gaming history, but it quickly became infamous for its buggy release. It was horrible to watch.
Enter its DLC “Phantom Liberty,” the DLC that not only redeemed the base game but also took it to a level many players initially hoped for. This game is set in a new district of Night City, this expansion offers a tighter narrative that immerses players in a spy story. The DLC introduced improved mechanics, better AI, and new abilities that made the gameplay more engaging via the addition of the Relic Tree. If you quickly browse through its page, you can see that many players found that the DLC delivered what they wished for in the original game, making it a massive standout amongst others.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: The Fate of Atlantis
From Steam Official Website
This title was insanely huge, and I thought Origins was huge, but the expansion of “The Fate of Atlantis” literally took it to mythological heights. Assassin’s Creed is already filled with lore. Still, this DLC dives deeper into the lore of Greek mythology, allowing players to explore the realms of Elysium, the Underworld, and At-frickin-Lantis itself. Each of these locations was stunningly designed and offered a captivating experience. In my opinion, the inclusion of philosophical questions that attack current dilemmas within the game gave it more depth compared to the main storyline.
What did we learn? It shows that sometimes change is good because it improves things that the original was loved for, so it's best to embrace it. This can also be applied to the latest and greatest smart devices the Next Upgrade Shop offers. Sure, smart devices were very bare before, but gradually, through improvements and innovations, these devices can offer transformative experiences to any home. Check it out!
