If a game is truly loved, it will never die. Even if the developers pull the plug, loyal fans or enthusiasts tend to band together to keep their favorite game alive. These fan-driven efforts can breathe new life into games, ensuring they can keep going. So, with that in mind, here will be some games that are still kicking, thanks to passion.

During the initial boom of League of Legends, there was its shadowed counterpart—a much more fast-paced counterpart, a title that I enjoyed more during my youth. Yes, I am talking about Heroes of Newerth (HoN), which sadly stopped its official servers around 2022.
But! Fans were not ready to let go. Through private servers and community-run initiatives, HoN continues to thrive. Diehard fans have preserved the gameplay and even introduced updates, proving that the game's legacy isn’t tied to a developer’s server. Being a fan around 2012, I tried it out, and boy, it was that nostalgic rollercoaster.
Gunz: The Duel
From MMO Culture Official Website
I completely sucked at this game; it wasn’t even the type of “suck” that was funny.
For those unaware, the gravity-defying action game Gunz: The Duel had a strong community behind it. So when it disappeared, fans quickly kept the game running and their adrenaline pumping. Tutorials even pop up if you are keen on learning the intrinsic moves available in the game.

Whether you’re flipping off walls or butterfly-slashing opponents mid-air, Gunz remains a fan-fueled playground for those who crave its unique blend of parkour and firefights. Thanks to its die-hard community, the duel lives on.
City of Heroes
From RockPaperShotgun Official Website
Once one of the most beloved superhero MMOs, City of Heroes went dark in 2012. That is until fans took matters into their own hands. Enter Homecoming, a fan-run project that resurrected the game’s spirit.
Players can once again don capes, form supergroups, and patrol the streets of Paragon City. The servers are free, and the community is as vibrant as ever, with players even hosting in-game events—so stick around forums because interesting things can go down.
These games share that they are running independently on their own servers. If you want to keep up and play these nostalgic titles, you need a router to keep up.
