#SoITried Playing R.E.P.O.: A Cute Robotic Physics-Based Horror
I respect the audio design!

I’ll admit, I didn’t give R.E.P.O. much thought at first. It popped up on my radar when some coworkers suggested we try it out for a Friday session. It was cheap, and I figured, why not?
From the get-go, the game’s audio design stood out—I love great audio design. It balances the feeling of spaciousness and claustrophobia. You can hear muffled screams, clear footsteps, and the eerie silence that envelops you when the Blind Guy with a gun is nearby. That silence? It’s deafening in the best way. Forced silence is great, and you can feel everyone tense up.

The tutorial was straightforward and helpful, but once it’s over, you’re thrown straight into the chaos. While you can play solo, R.E.P.O. truly shines as a social experience. It’s designed for what I would like to call “shared panic.” Hearing your friends fumble around, hide, and destroy valuable stuff is laughable. Take, for example, our attempt at level 8. We were casually chatting as we entered the first room, only to be instantly blasted. No warning, no buildup—just DEATH. I couldn’t stop laughing.
R.E.P.O. is one of the hottest games at the moment. Since its early release in 2025, it has garnered an overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam, with over 127,000 reviews. It even peaked at over 271,000 concurrent players, surpassing big titles like GTA V and Apex on the platform.
But why?

Well, what sets R.E.P.O. apart is its blend of humor and horror. You play as adorable robots tasked with retrieving valuable items from “haunted” locations. The physics-based mechanics mean that every object you carry can become a liability or a weapon. Drop a vase, and you might alert a nearby monster, but if dropped just right, it can be used as a weapon to get rid of the monster. It’s a delicate balance between caution and chaos.

R.E.P.O. has just the right tension for a break. It’s not the scariest game out there, but its audio design and social gameplay make it a standout. If you’re looking for a fun, cooperative experience that keeps you on your toes, give R.E.P.O. a try. Now, if you want to enjoy the audio to the fullest, you can grab yourself the JBL Quantum 300 with its QuantumSURROUND, which provides you with an immersive experience that keeps you completely hooked.
