The first Switch was released in 2017, so it’s been almost a decade since this handheld console entered the scene. With its recent announcement, you’re probably asking: Is it really that different? Short answer: Yes! But instead of throwing a spec sheet your way, let’s discuss the “feel” of the current differences between the two.
What do you look at the most when holding a switch? The screen. That is the most immediate shift. The original Switch came with a 720p display that did the job well enough. It wasn’t fancy, but it let you game on the go, and it didn’t totally drain your battery in the process. The Switch 2, on the other hand, is finally—yes, finally—rocking a 1080p LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. That means gameplay will look and feel smoother. Even navigating the menu will feel noticeably faster, especially when you are used to the old one.

Then we have the controllers. Joy-Cons on the original Switch are fine... until they start drifting.
They are also a pain to sync during a Mario Party match with other players. The Switch 2 introduces magnetic Joy-Con 2s, which click into place with a satisfying snap and are far more responsive.
Not to forget, they can be used like a mouse in some games. I can’t wait to see what other games utilize this feature.

And let’s not forget the dock situation. The original Switch dock was pretty simple—it was the device that charged your Switch and played on your TV. The Switch 2 dock, however, is a bit of a glow-up. Not only does it support 4K output, but it's designed to work better with modern TVs and setups. It even comes with better ventilation and slightly improved cable management, making your setup cleaner and cooler—literally.
After all this, the Classic still holds up in my opinion. If your gaming sessions are more casual and you’re not too fussed about frame rates or upgrades, it still delivers an enjoyable experience. But if you are feeling the age of your device and crave something stronger, the Switch 2 is here to play.

It's not about replacing a classic; it’s about recognizing when something truly levels up. And Switch 2? It's Nintendo saying, “Yeah, we’ve been listening.”
Speaking of Nintendo’s Switch console, how about an upgrade of your own household switch—the MIGHTY LIGHT SWITCH! If you want to elevate this humble classic, you can check out the Crabtek Smart Mechanical Switch 3 Gang that offers a butt load of tech upgrades like voice and app control. Cool, right?
