Gaming is a colorful universe filled with countless playstyles, genres, and dank memes. Some play at their own casual pace and those who just Leroy Jenkins it and charge into anything and everything—there is a buttload of types out there which is why we will be naming a few. So stick around and see if your gamer type is included in this list! 

Author’s note: Before we start, it’s crucial to note that these descriptions are meant for fun, not to stereotype or discriminate. Instead, they were made to engage with the audience in a manner of relatability regarding gaming.

The Achievement Alchemist

This gamer doesn’t just play games; they complete them. 

Side quests? Mandatory. Hidden collectibles? Found. Obscure hidden playtest map? Yep, he/she has finished that zone too. They’ve probably 100%’d games you didn’t even know had achievements. They’re the reason some developers hide achievements like "Stare at this NPC for 47 consecutive minutes." 

And yes, they’ll do it—with pride. If you are this type of gamer, kudos to you because I do not have the patience for this. 

The Frame Rate Maniac

I believe we were this type of gamer at a certain point. Gamers trying to get on by with the crappy system we had. They are the type who can spot a dropped frame in an instant and have spent more time in the settings menu than actually playing the game; tweaking every slider or toggle. Since they stem from poor systems before, they will try to keep their frame rate at a stable 60 once they upgrade—they just know how it feels like to have suboptimal gameplay. Either that, or they spent too much money on their system to experience “poor” performance. 

Oh, they also speak in tongues like ‘V-Sync’ and ‘DLSS’ and all that jazz. 

The Librarian

These gamers are here to learn and sometimes play the game. They are the type who would take the time to search each and every reference that the game will throw at them. It may be crazy to some, but they take the time to read every in-game book that they come across. Remember those books in Witcher 3? Yeah, they take the time to read them and even organize them. 

While some of you are skipping cutscenes to get back to the action, they’re pausing to dissect every detail, wondering, "But what does that mean?"

The Glue

This gamer is the person that holds the squad together. Life can get a bit busy, so they take it upon themselves to schedule play sessions to keep the server alive—they’ll make it work. Why? Well, sometimes they just enjoy playing more with friends or maybe they enjoy the chaos that comes out of it. They aren’t necessarily the best player in the group but they always enjoy a round of quick matches. Bonus: they tend to be the healer of the group, an ultimate sign of true support. 

Handheld Hermit

Who needs a desk or a TV when you’ve got portability, baby! 

Be it a Switch, Steam Deck, or a retro Game Boy that somehow still works, the hermit is never without their handheld device. They game during commutes, lunch breaks, and suspiciously long bathroom trips. Yeah, I am calling those people out, some people need to use the bathroom!
