Why You Should Hold off on the Switch 2 For Now
I love it… But maybe we should wait it out for a bit.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially been announced. And at first glance, it looks awesome. It has a 1080p LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and new magnetic Joy-Con controllers that can act as mice for certain games. Overall, it's a great upgrade—great for Nintendo but kind of nyeh within the handheld console field—but should you make the purchase?

To get it out of the way, it will be priced at $449.99. Here, it might be priced a bit over due to transportation and tax, which is quite the chunk of change if you also consider the games and accessories you will be buying. As a casual gamer, that’s not an easy amount to part with if you already have the OG or OLED versions at hand.

Since it was already mentioned, let’s look at the games. Sure, there are great launch titles like Mario Kart World—I love this game—and the unexpected Dusk Blood. But, after reflecting a bit, I thought, “What else?” So even with those fancy new features, there’s not a lot on day one that’ll fully showcase what the Switch 2 can do. It’s like buying a sports car and only being allowed to drive it in a parking lot.
I’m saying things need to cook for a bit…

Additionally, new hardware usually comes with growing pains; maybe some minor bugs, maybe a future hardware revision that’s slimmer, better, or bundled with more games. It’s happened before. Plus, you’ll get more value waiting for reviews, real-world performance insights, and maybe even a price drop or promo.
I get the hype. The upgraded screen, those magnetic Joy-Cons click sounds, and better 4K compatibility. The new motion and mouse-like controls could open the door to some really creative gameplay. But if you’re not in a rush, waiting six months to a year might give you a better game library, more stable pricing, and a clearer idea of whether those new features are worth it for you.

No judgment if you're grabbing one on day one, but if you're playing the long game, maybe keep that pre-order in your cart a little while longer. Speaking of carts, check out the Promate Neo-10! This nifty device is capable of charging your smart devices and Apple Watch at the same time with 10,000mAh of battery power. With its small form factor and seamless connectivity, this device is a great one to have on the go.
