Old but Still Gold: Why the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Is Still a Great Mouse

I might switch over once more. I feel like this is an endgame mouse.

Every new mouse on the market today seems to come with a checklist: “Ultra-lightweight at just XX grams!” “Perfect shape for claw grip.” “Honeycomb holes.” And don’t get me wrong. I’ve fallen for those flashy marketing specs, too. You get tempted by weight reductions, RGB inclusions, and other marketing jargon, such as zero-lag switches. But after all that, I always find myself gravitating back to one reliable classic: the Logitech G502 Lightspeed

Yeah, I know—it’s not the latest mouse on the market. It doesn’t have a honeycomb shell or weigh less than a pack of siomai. But it’s solid, dependable, and can still keep up with its later brethren.

Let’s talk about feel and design first. The G502’s ergonomic design? It is still great. It fits the hand like a glove thanks to its dedicated divot for the thumb. It’s a proper palm grip mouse, with weight to it, but not in a bad way. In fact, the heft gives it a premium feel, as if you’re holding something that can be used as self-defense against a home intruder. And if you do want to adjust the weight, Logitech includes weights in the box. Imagine that: a mouse that actually gives you options without forcing you into the “ultralight” mold.

Functionality-wise, this mouse is a massive all-rounder. You’ve got 11 programmable buttons, which makes it a dream for people who bounce between games and productivity tasks. A vivid example that I can share was when I assigned my shoot button to my scroll wheel. Why? Well, at that time, the Hemlock in Apex Legends was a great gun to use when in single-fire mode.

Essentially, the G502 remains the king in terms of functionality, catering to diverse individuals and their respective preferences.

One of its advantages is also its battery life. I think it is just Logitech products as a whole, because their lineup has great battery management. The G502 can be used for a full week without worrying about charging it for hours on end. Its wireless capability is also noteworthy, with no noticeable lag, and it features a great braided cable.

Lastly, the G502 just… lasts. My original one went through two PC builds and some gaming rages that I’d care to admit. It’s not just your regular purchase; it’s an investment.

So if you’re eyeing a mouse upgrade this year and wondering what will really make a difference, maybe take a look backward. The Logitech G502 Lightspeed might be a few years old, but trust me, it still can hold its weight.

Because sometimes, old really is gold.
