Will the Low Cost Macbook Be Worth the Wait?

A budget-friendly MacBook coming soon!

Rumor has it that Apple plans to release a low-cost MacBook to lure customers away from Chromebooks and other Windows PCs. Despite the new model still undergoing testing, sources have already shared details to excite fans in time for its release.

Here are some things to expect from the rumored affordable MacBook, plus a better, more powerful alternative from the Next Upgrade Shop.

Price Point

The budget MacBook is set to be Apple’s first entry into the low-cost laptop market and may retail for around ₱45,000. This will most definitely be cheaper than the latest M4 MacBook Air, which is priced around ₱64,990 in the market.

Performance

Given its lower price point, this MacBook is also expected to be powered by an A-series chip rather than the usual M-series used in recent models. Since this Apple silicon processor is commonly used in iPhones, it is more likely to be smaller and less performance-optimized.

Design

Some sources report that this MacBook version will feature an entirely new design and a slightly smaller display than the standard 13-inch MacBook Air. Its lower-end LCD is also expected to deliver lower resolution and brightness compared to the standard models.

With all these rumors and predictions laid out, this affordable MacBook seems to target general consumers whose primary tasks involve basic documentation, productivity apps, or online access that won’t require complex functions such as editing or coding.

Considering its price, it may be worth the wait for students or budget-conscious users who wish to experience Apple's reliability. But if you’re looking for better performance, previous models may offer more features at the same price point, such as this one from the Next Upgrade Shop
