The Power of Music When Working Out
Upgrade your workout game with some awesome beats!

Your boy writer has started working out, and I must say that having some tunes is a must with me. Why? What is it with some K-pop music while lifting weights or jogging on the treadmill that makes everything “better?” Well, let’s cover it today.
It sets the tone. Entering the gym can be intimidating, especially when everyone seems to know what they’re doing, and you’re still adjusting your grip for the 10th time. Music instantly puts you in a headspace where it’s just you and the workout. A good playlist drowns out the awkward grunts, gym chatter, and that one guy slamming the weights like he’s summoning Thor’s hammer (no hate by the way, I actually applaud those who can lift the heavy stuff).

I recommend having a designated playlist for the gym, but feel free to use anything you like. Anime openings? Early 2000s songs? Listen to any music as long as it can keep you focused and confident.
Music helps with your pacing. One thing I quickly realized is that music isn’t just for your vibes; it helps keep you in rhythm. Try doing cardio without music. You’ll hear every breath and every internal scream that is telling you to stop. But when you throw in a beat at 130 BPM, you will find consistency in your pacing. Music turns your movement into a flow rather than a chore, especially when you go for repetitive sets.

It’s motivating. We all have that one song. The one that kicks in and makes you believe you could add one last rep. Music taps into your emotions—hype, anger, joy, nostalgia—all of which you can channel into your workout. I personally save specific tracks for the hardest part of my session. It’s like a mini boss fight, and the theme music is half the battle. By the way, this is one of the songs I listen to, link.

So yeah, as someone who’s still figuring things out, music in the gym is a great companion. It’s a whole performance enhancer, mentally and physically. And if you are looking for an audio companion, consider the Sony WF-1000XM5 Wireless Noise-Canceling headphones. It may be quite pricey, but its noise canceling and quality will last you for a long time. If that isn’t your cup of tea, there are great selections available in our Next Upgrade Shop, like the Promate Airclip, capable of delivering superior sound without compromising your environmental awareness.
