Mix and Matching: Why You Should Pair the Right Adaptor With the Right Cable
For longer and safer charging, make sure to keep these things in mind

Modern phones are moving towards a better, more convenient space. Apple and Android are now capable of sharing charging cables—amazing! That’s if you have the latest models but if you don’t, like a majority of us (myself included) we still have that thunderbolt and type C divide.

But going back into the space of charging, we’ve all done it. We grab the nearest cable to charge our device and wonder why it’s charging so slowly. That’s because not all chargers were created equal, and pairing the wrong adaptor to the wrong cable can be the reason why you aren’t reaching your desired charging speed.
So, let’s break it down: why does mixing and matching matter, and how can you make sure you’re getting the best charging experience?

Does it matter? Yes! Think of charging like a relay race. Your adapter is the first runner, handing off energy to the cable, which then delivers it to your device. If one part of this chain isn’t built to handle the speed, everything else slows down. If you have the latest adapter out there but use a cable from the early 2000s, you will not get your desired results.
That is why you should choose the right combo. If you want to make sure your charging setup is actually working for you instead of against you, take these tips into mind:
Match wattage to your needs - If your device supports fast charging, use an adapter that delivers the correct wattage.
Use certified cables - Not all cables are built for high-speed charging. For example, the InfinityLab InstantConnect USB-C 100W charging cable is designed for high-wattage charging, but if you pair it with a weak adapter, you won’t get that full 100W.
Check compatibility - Some devices are picky, so make sure your adapter and cable are both designed to support your phone, laptop, or tablet because sometimes you can overcharge a device.

The simple solution here? READ.
Take some time to read through the box and check your devices. Give it the love and affection it requires and your devices will remain with you for a long time. So the next time you’re scrambling for a charger, take a second to check your device and charging setup.
