Quick and Healthy: 3 Steaming Gamer Snacks

The power of water vapor, gamers!

Raise your hand if you believe gaming and snacking go hand in hand. Mmmm, yeah, I believe so too.

Sometimes, when playing your favorite, you get peckish and normally one would head over to their kitchen to grab chips or something similar. But let’s face it, the usual go-to snacks aren’t always the healthiest. Chips, instant noodles, and sugar-loaded drinks are fine once in a while, but maybe it is time to switch it up. Maybe you want something that is both satisfying and won’t weigh you down.

Here are three great steamed gamer snacks to keep you fueled without the food coma, as long as you eat these snacks in moderation.

Siomai

In my humble opinion, siomai is a street food favorite that is not only tasty but also surprisingly adaptable. Usually made with pork, shrimp, or beef, it’s steamed, not fried, so you skip out on the extra oil.

Siomai is rich in protein and can be easily portioned for quick mid-game bites. Pair it with a little calamansi and chili garlic sauce, and you’ve got a snack that’s surprisingly filling. For those Gym gamers out there, this is a great choice to have because you still get some added protein for your muscles. Plus, no messy fingers to wipe off on your keyboard!

Puto

If you’re craving something slightly sweet but still light, steamed rice cakes like puto and kutsinta are excellent choices. These snacks are made from rice flour and often topped with cheese or paired with coconut. They’re soft, easy to eat, and a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth. Best part? They won’t leave crumbs on your desk, can be easily purchased (if you aren’t too into cooking them), and can be served a little later.

Hard-boiled eggs and carrot sticks

A basic goodie. These two aren’t normally steamed, but they are great ingredients for your steamer. Steamed eggs or hard-boiled eggs are packed with protein and incredibly simple to prepare. The same can be said for carrots because you can simply peel them, cut them into long strips, and then finally steam them. Potatoes are also a good alternative, but I prefer the natural crunch of carrots.

Now, if you want to add a little bit of flavor, you can use mayonnaise as well! The way I do it is to prep some mayonnaise, add in some onion bits, and a little bit of Kikoman. It’s a great snack or breakfast.

Steaming food is a healthy and arguably quick way to prepare meals. If you do not have your own steamer, it may be a great time to get one, especially the Hyundai HMS-HS15LW Multi-Function Food Steamer, which has multiple layers to steam different meals.
