From Gaming to Real Life: Smart Ways to Improve Your Reaction Time

November 15, 2024 / by Louigi Balao / 3 mins read

Some people excel in strength, others in intellect. If you are a gamer and wish to increase your reaction time skills, consider jotting down some of these tips. Quick reactions are game-changers, not just in gaming but also in sports and everyday life. They help you respond faster and think on your feet. So here are some simple tips to get you started improving your reaction time.

Place yourself into the thick of things. Conceptualizing something isn’t bad at all, but if you don’t throw yourself out there, it will never flourish. If you want to get better, it is good to try your hand at games that force quick reaction time, like Call of Duty, Valorant, and even Osu, if you prefer a beat game. These games force you to make split-second decisions and react swiftly.

Train your brain. Brain training apps are also a viable way to keep your mind sharp. Apps like Lumosity, Peak, and Elevate have games designed to improve reaction time and cognitive functions. These apps challenge your brain with tasks that need quick thinking. Using them regularly can help you process information faster and react more swiftly.

Get physical. Okay, you may not have an accessible field, but your reaction time will drastically improve if you can head outside and practice hand-eye coordination drills. Instead of being stuck in the room all the time, you can take in the fresh air as you play a relaxing game of catch.

If you don’t necessarily have the space, you can try juggling. Juggling is an excellent exercise for practicing hand-eye coordination since it syncs with reaction time. Start with two balls and work your way up from there. Another great sport to try out is Badminton since the fastest recorded time for a hit is 493km/h–insane, right? Once you have these locked down, you can see improvements soon.

It is not used for its intended purpose, but it is still good to try. Do you still have that old ruler from grade school? Another fun reaction exercise can be done with it. Have a family member hold the ruler vertically. Place your hand at the bottom without touching it, and try to catch it as fast as possible as soon as it is dropped. If you want to add some stakes, you can try the cash trend on TikTok, where people pin money against the wall and ask the player to catch it before it hits the ground.

As previously mentioned, fresh air can help you achieve faster reaction times. However, if you are training at home, why not have clean air there? The Crabtek Smart Air Purifier can provide clean air free from pollutants thanks to its HEPA filter, which can catch dust particles above five microns.
