#SoITried Helldivers 2: Enjoyable Carnage That You Must Try!

We are nearing the midpoint of 2024, and so far, the games that have been released are FIRE. We got the monster-catching game Palworld, which surprisingly made its mark despite using labor and guns as its anchor points—questionable but fun. But now we have an addicting, thrilling, and democracy-induced shooter named Helldivers 2.

At first, I was hesitant to pay attention to it, but its recent fight over Sony’s PSN implementation caught my eye. Why? It was review bombed to the ground, and Steam issued gamers complete refunds of the game even after playing for more than two hours. For a game hinged on democracy, this situation caught my attention because the community won its fight, and I decided to try it out. And my God, was it magnificent.
The beginning of the dive. Its opening cinematics were short, simple, engaging, and ironically funny. Despite it being clearly propaganda, asking people to join the cause of “controlled democracy,” the people over at Arrowhead Studios were able to embrace that tone and own it. They nailed the messaging, kept it throughout the game, and sunk people in this deep hole of pure entertainment. How?
The game.
I looked into the first game, and to say the least, it was all right. The concept was unique, and their narrative was uniform. As the second iteration came, it was like a completely different game. The tutorial was humorous but covered only 1% of the masterpiece. I wouldn’t have enjoyed the game if I had been left alone. Despite the low-ranking missions initially, I had high-level players showing the ins and outs of the game. They kept the carnage at bay while my friends and I were learning on the side.

The gameplay loop, bugs, and robots galore! The game is easy to understand after a few rounds—the loop is digestible. However, as the difficulty ramps up, you want to do better. By that, it means better equipment, better strategems, and better team communication. Playing this game without audio is possible, but you are missing a good chunk of the experience. Communication is easy because players fight for one thing: to protect Super Earth, their families, and their freedom.
In Helldivers 2, you can fight either the socialist Automatons or the nasty Terminids. I enjoy fighting the robots as it seems harder, and that element perfectly fits my tastes. But, if you have IRL frustrations towards bugs but can’t do anything about it, maybe Helldivers 2 is for you.
The awesome thing about the game is its real-time display of statistics. If you go to your console, you can see active players, soldiers KIA, enemies vanquished, and the planets that need to be liberated. A good description is that the game feels alive, it's an ongoing development that pins humans against species bent on annihilating us. The hold of either the Automatons or Terminids can extend closer to Super Earth if the community doesn’t fight back.
It feels alive, and every player is doing their part.
Give managed democracy a go. If you are looking for something to play for a long time, give this title a go. If you want to hang out with pals on a Saturday evening with a few beers, this is the perfect game to have on. Be it either a keyboard or a console, everyone can join the fight. Just remember to call out your own missile strikes for the sake of your brethren.
