Not every day you stumble across a game that feels polished right from the start. In my experience, the latest Marvel Rivals is one such gem. From my first match, I was swingin’ — because I mostly played Venom.  Unlike other games that require endless tweaking and fine-tuning of settings, this one worked well out of the box. No stress, no hassle. Just pure, unadulterated fun.

Developed by NetEase Games, one of the game’s standout features is its massive roster of characters. If you are a Marvel fan, you will be spoiled for choice because the franchise is filled with heroes and villains.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Each character has unique pairings and interactions that unlock additional skills or passives, making teamwork and strategy feel dynamic. If you can’t imagine it just yet, you can throw characters like Wolverine as the Hulk or ride Groot’s shoulders as Rocket! This means you can toss your friends off the map as soon as the match starts.

You can break your environment. Destruction is another area where Marvel Rivals shines. The battlefield isn’t just a static playground—it’s a setting that encourages players to be creative in finding new ways to enter the battle. Blast, punch, or blow it up are a few actions you can take against the walls.

One thing I also appreciate is the web-slinging gameplay. I have never played the recent Spider-Man games, so I never understood why people praise the satisfaction of swinging. It may not be the same, but after playing Venom or Spider-Man, I realized how thrilling it is because the battles can be vertical. Venom quickly became my go-to for this mechanic. Why? He looks funny swinging around or crawling on the walls, which I found amusing. This addition is fantastic because the added mobility made his “F” skill more effective whenever the swing skill was down.

Marvel Rivals vs. Overwatch

I couldn’t help but draw comparisons to Overwatch, particularly its sequel. While Overwatch 2 feels like a minor update slapped with a shiny new title, Marvel Rivals offers a more complete and satisfying package. It’s like Marvel Rivals took notes on what makes team-based games fun and delivered exactly that—without the baggage of an unnecessary “2” in the name.

What really excites me is what Marvel Rivals represents: competition in the hero fighter space. It’s refreshing to see a game challenge the status quo, proving that there’s room for innovation and creativity in a genre often dominated by a few titles.

Should you give it a go? It’s free, so nothing is stopping you. You don’t need to be a Marvel fan to enjoy it because it offers simple joy. Just be careful of Winter Soldier because my games are riddled with him! I can’t catch a break because he always gets his resets.

One thing that I did enjoy was the art style and colors of the game. It is brilliantly vibrant, which pulls you in. To enjoy the game to its fullest, you can check out the Machenike Gaming Monitor, which offers a fast IPS panel at 1440p. Grab your upgrade and continue your gaming journey.
