Why AAA Titles Should Provide Benchmarking Tools Before Release

Grateful for the heads up, now I just need a PC upgrade.

Monster Hunter Wilds has dropped, and it made me excited. I love the Monster Hunter series, with Rise being my favorite with its art style and weapon mechanics. But with every recent game announcement, the same question always arises.

“Will my PC run this game? Do I need an upgrade?”

Upon trailer teaser I was instantly sold, I could not wait but I was also looking at my system huffing and puffing. Now what Capcom recently did was something smart. Before their demo, they provided a benchmarking tool that allowed players to test their setups. It wasn’t just a generic system requirement list but an actual cutscene and gameplay sequence that measured real-time performance.

The benchmark ran at all low settings with my RTX 2060, and I got a stable 65 FPS. Technically, it ran fine, but visually, it was clear that my trusty system couldn’t handle the game properly. The textures look like clay, sadly. Although a bit disappointing, I appreciated knowing this before purchasing the game.

I may want to buy it, but I must prioritize an upgrade first.

This experience got me thinking—why don’t more AAA developers provide benchmarking tools before release? These tools give consumers a clear and honest look at how a game will run on their own respective systems. Instead of relying on vague “minimum” and “recommended” specs, players can test the game themselves.

It also prevents unnecessary refunds and disappointment. Many gamers pre-order or buy at launch only to realize their rigs can’t handle the game, leading to frustration and a ton of refund requests. It may seem like a small feature, but they do offer great benefits for players and developers. Players get transparency, and developers reduce overall complaints.

I am still sad, though! At least gaming on mobile is a bit more accessible since developers keep in mind the possibility of those who have budget phones. But! With budget beasts like the XREAL BEAM PRO, you can handle games like Genshin Impact without a problem! Check out the latest and greatest in our Next Upgrade Shop.
